Peshawar Closure Rumours Dismissed: Schools to Open, BRT to Resume Amid Gathering Ban

PESHAWAR: All educational institutions in Peshawar will remain open on Tuesday, October 13, the deputy commissioner announced, dismissing rumours of further closures after Monday’s disruption. The announcement comes alongside the planned restoration of the city’s Bus Rapid Transit services, while restrictions on public gatherings remain in force.

The developments follow a day of educational closures, road blockades and police deployment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial capital after the imposition of governor’s rule in the province.

The deputy commissioner urged residents to disregard fake notifications and rumours concerning the closure of educational institutions.

The clarification establishes that educational activities are scheduled to continue on Tuesday, despite uncertainty following Monday’s shutdown.

It also gives parents, students and teaching staff an official announcement to refer to when planning their day.

The administration’s message focused on the opening of institutions in Peshawar. It should therefore be understood as a city-specific announcement rather than a statement about educational arrangements across the entire province.

Meanwhile, TransPeshawar, the organisation responsible for managing Peshawar’s BRT system, announced that transport services would be restored from Tuesday, October 13.

The services will operate as usual on all routes. The announcement provides a transport update for passengers preparing to travel as educational institutions reopen.

The restoration of BRT services and the opening of institutions mark a resumption of key daily activities following Monday’s disruption.

However, these announcements do not themselves confirm that every road blockade has been removed.

Police Deployment Follows Monday’s Disruption

Educational institutions remained closed on Monday amid roadblocks following the imposition of governor’s rule.

Police personnel were present on roads across the city, with heavier deployment reported near the boundary of the Cantonment area.

The reopening announcement comes against that security backdrop, with the district administration separately maintaining restrictions on gatherings and potentially dangerous items.

The deputy commissioner has imposed a seven-day ban on gatherings under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The order also prohibits the display of weapons and the carrying of spikes, ball bearings, laden batons, petrol bombs or other instruments that could potentially be used for violence.

These restrictions remain a separate part of the administration’s response. Educational institutions and BRT services are scheduled to operate on Tuesday, while the gathering ban continues for its stated duration.
