QUETTA: Jalila Haider, a prominent lawyer, human rights activist and social leader, has been honoured with the prestigious 2026 Right Livelihood Award, a recognition described by the Central Organization of Traders Balochistan as a matter of pride for the Hazara community, Balochistan and Pakistan.
Central Organization of Traders Balochistan spokesperson Kashif Haideri congratulated Jalila Haider on receiving the international award, saying her recognition reflects her long-standing efforts for human rights, justice, women’s rights and marginalized communities.
Jalila Haider Recognised for Human Rights Advocacy
According to the statement, Jalila Haider has spent years advocating for vulnerable and disadvantaged communities and working against ethnic and gender-based discrimination and human rights violations.
She is the first female lawyer from Pakistan’s Hazara community and has continued her legal and social efforts to improve access to justice for marginalized groups.
The Right Livelihood Foundation has recognized her work in providing legal assistance and supporting people who face social and economic disadvantages.
Jalila Haider’s Seven-Day Hunger Strike
A notable chapter in Jalila Haider’s activism came in 2018, when she staged a seven-day hunger strike to protest targeted killings of members of the Hazara community.
She has also worked to promote women’s political and social participation, protect the rights of disadvantaged groups and support the economic empowerment of affected families.
Right Livelihood Award Described as an “Alternative Nobel”
The Right Livelihood Award is an international honour presented to individuals and organizations recognized for their contributions to human rights, justice, peace and social change. It is often referred to as the “Alternative Nobel Prize.”

According to the statement, Jalila Haider received the award in recognition of her work defending human rights, challenging ethnic and gender discrimination and advocating for marginalized communities.
Tribute to Jalila Haider’s Continued Struggle
Kashif Haideri said Jalila Haider had continued her advocacy for human rights and the rule of law despite facing difficult circumstances, threats and pressure.
He described her international recognition as an achievement that demonstrates the contribution individuals from Balochistan and Pakistan can make to global efforts for peace, justice and human rights.
He congratulated Jalila Haider and expressed hope that she would continue her work for vulnerable and marginalized communities with the same commitment and determination.
