Sri Lanka Qualifies for Tri-Series Final after Dominant Win over Pakistan

LAHORE: In a decisive encounter at the Gaddafi Stadium, Sri Lanka showcased a commanding performance, defeating Pakistan by eight wickets to secure their place in the Tri-Series Final.

The comprehensive victory not only propels the visitors into the summit clash but also officially eliminates England from contention in the three-nation tournament.

The final, scheduled for Saturday, will feature a highly-anticipated rematch between Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Opting to bat first in a match crucial for tournament standing, Pakistan’s batting lineup crumbled against a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling attack.

The host team was bundled out for a meager 110 runs in just the 26th over.

Sri Lankan left-arm pacer, Dilshan Madushanka, was the chief wrecker, decimating the top and middle order to finish with stellar figures of 5 for 34.

Sahan Arachchige provided valuable support, claiming two wickets.

For Pakistan, skipper Babar Azam was the lone significant contributor with 29 runs.

Other notable scores included Hassan Nawaz (17), Shaheen Shah Afridi (15), and Arafat Minhas (10), as the rest of the side failed to cross double figures, highlighting a collective batting failure.

In reply, Sri Lanka made a mockery of the modest target, chasing it down comfortably in the 18th over with eight wickets to spare.

Opener Kamindu Mendis anchored the pursuit with a fluid, unbeaten 62, while Pavan Rathnayake remained not out on 23.

Pakistan’s Shaheen Afridi and Arafat Minhas managed to pick up one wicket each, but it was insufficient to stem the Sri Lankan flow.

Following this outcome, Pakistan’s record in the series stands at three wins and one loss. Sri Lanka has secured two victories from their three matches, while England has suffered defeats in all three of their outings.

The final round-robin match, between Sri Lanka and England, will take place on Thursday in Lahore, though it is now a dead rubber.

Despite today’s result, both Sri Lanka and Pakistan had already done enough to ensure their passage to the Tri-Series Final this Saturday.
