PESHAWAR: PTI’s group of 30 members becomes active for the nomination of a new CM KP. According to the sources, Following political developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, internal maneuvering within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has intensified as different groups lobby for their preferred candidates for the position of New KP Chief Minister.
While official decisions are pending, distinct camps have emerged within the parliamentary party, each pushing a different narrative regarding the provincial leadership.
Sources familiar with the situation reveal that significant differences of opinion exist among senior PTI central leaders and members of the provincial assembly (MPAs).
One influential segment of the central leadership is reportedly advocating for a New KP Chief Minister to be selected from either the Buner or Hazara regions.
This group believes a shift in regional representation could benefit the party’s long-term structure in the province.
Conversely, a substantial block of over 30 sitting MPAs has actively started lobbying for the re-appointment of Ali Amin Gandapur.
They have even formed a dedicated WhatsApp group to coordinate their efforts and maintain communication.
This group strongly favors Gandapur returning as the New KP Chief Minister, viewing him as the most suitable candidate to lead the executive branch under current circumstances.
However, the sources emphasize that until direct consultations can take place with the PTI founder, any selection made by the parliamentary party will likely be an interim or temporary arrangement.
Addressing these reports, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa spokesperson Shaukat Yousafzai clarified to the media that no final decision has been made regarding the nomination.
He stated that if current leadership faced disqualification (referring to Sohail Afridi), the party leadership would collectively decide on a New KP Chief Minister through comprehensive consultation.
Yousafzai dismissed rumors of internal rifts or grouping, asserting that the name of Ali Amin Gandapur was previously proposed by the parliamentary party to represent the province, and the recently formed WhatsApp groups are merely for internal coordination and contact among assembly members.
Note on Governor’s Rule Implementation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP)
The potential imposition of Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a significant constitutional measure, governed primarily by Article 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
This provision empowers the President, upon receiving a report from the Governor of a province or otherwise, to issue a Proclamation if a situation has arisen in which the Government of the province cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
While the current political activity centers on selecting a New KP Chief Minister, underlying political instability sometimes fuels speculation about federal intervention.
Implementing Governor’s Rule effectively suspends the provincial setup; the Chief Minister and the cabinet cease to function, and the provincial assembly may either be suspended or dissolved.
Under Governor’s Rule, the executive authority of the province is exercised by the Governor on behalf of the President, often assisted by advisors appointed by the federal government.
This is considered an extraordinary step, typically reserved for severe breakdowns in law and order, paralyzing political gridlock, or a failure to form a stable provincial government.

Its use is subject to parliamentary approval within a specified period and is generally intended as a temporary measure to restore constitutional order in the province.
