LAHORE: A tragic incident involving a clash between prisoners at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail has left one prisoner dead and several others injured. The incident has raised important questions regarding prisoner safety and administrative oversight at the jail. Punjab Home Secretary took immediate notice of the incident and ordered a high-level inquiry.
Three DIGs Appointed to Inquiry Committee
On the instructions of the Punjab Home Secretary, an inquiry committee comprising three deputy inspectors general (DIGs) has been formed.
The committee includes DIG Prisons Lahore Mohsin Rafiq, DIG Prisons Headquarters Shaukat Feroze, and DIG Prisons Inspection Naveed Rauf.
The committee began its investigation shortly after the incident.
Inquiry Committee Questions Injured Prisoners
The high-level inquiry committee has started questioning injured prisoners.
Relevant jail staff are also being questioned to gather information about the incident.
The inquiry will examine the causes of the clash and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Issues relating to jail administration, including monitoring and timely intervention, may also form part of the investigation.
Those responsible for the incident will be identified based on the findings of the inquiry.
Action Against Those Found Responsible
The Punjab Home Secretary has stated that those responsible for the incident will be identified.
He has directed that legal action be taken against anyone found responsible in accordance with the law.

The decision indicates that the incident is not being treated merely as a clash between prisoners, with various aspects of the incident to be examined as part of the inquiry.
Injured Prisoners Receive Medical Treatment
The Punjab Home Secretary has also directed that the injured prisoners be provided with the best possible medical treatment.
On his instructions, Inspector General Prisons Mian Salik Jalal and Additional Secretary Prisons Roman Burana are present at General Hospital.
Both officials are monitoring the medical facilities and treatment being provided to the injured prisoners.
